The
Sacred Heart church website is excellent. It was nice to see the
church I was christened in and my mother was a parishioner.

I
live in Perth, Western Australia. I visited Chichester years ago,
but only just heard of the mosaics in your church! They are beautiful!
St Richard has long been my patron saint. Are there pictures available
of all the scenes from his life?
Sincerely in Christ, Richard Charlwood January 2009
[Photographs
of the seven scenes, plus notes, covering the life of St. Richard
were emailed to Mr Charlwood. He was most grateful and said that
he had been to Ravenna (the Italian City of Mosaics) and that
the Sacred Heart mosaics "stand up very well, in comparison".

It
was lovely to attend Mass last year at 'our' beautiful church and
to take tea with the parishioners afterwards in the hall. But it
was sad for me to see my old school replaced by a housing estate,
and to park our car on the floor of the gym. Droitwich has changed
a great deal since I attended the College there from '47 to '52,
but time moves on and the parish community is thriving.
I
thank God for my education by the priests and brothers of the S.C.J.,
and for the sacrifices my parents made for me.

I
am so proud of my great grandfather Maurice Josey’s work.
I visited with my wife and children a few years ago and intend to
return this year.

[The
mosaics of The Church of the Sacred Heart and St Catherine of
Alexandria are considered to be among the finest in England. They
were designed by Gabriel Pippet and carried out by the mosaicists

It was a little like
returning from home after holidays to discover your website.
I was a pupil, as was
my brother Michael (1939 - 1987), and remember Fr. Harrison very
well. Also, Fr. Jim Darley, Fr. Biggert, Fr. Hazelton, Fr. P.Kelly,
Fr. T.Cahill and Brother John, and Bernard Hutchings the organist
and choirmaster. The church was a haven for me and I spent many
hours gazing at the beautiful statue of Our Lady which was placed
to the left of the altar. I served Mass for Fr. Ilsley and Fr. Lee
in the Lady Chapel and for Fr. Rose the PP at the High Altar.
I met Gabriel Pippet
when I first visited the church as a seven year old and was enthralled
by his patient answers to my questions about the capitals on the
columns and the mosaics which were beginning to adorn the walls
and ceiling. He showed me a number of faces which he said were people
who annoyed him! Childhood was made a wonder by the magic and mystery
of "our" church.
Thanks
for putting up such a beautiful website. Pity about the school!
And yes, I do remember you Clive Bishop!!
